Summary

The story of the heart can never be unwritten。

Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away。

But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve。 Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother。。。only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her。

Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs。 As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion。 Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love。

Love, loss, friendship, and the betrayals of the past all collide in this first fiction novel from New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Autoboyography, Dating You / Hating You)。

Beautiful story。 The only downside is that Christina Lauren’s endings always feel rushed, otherwise I loved this book。 It also has the best acknowledgements I’ve ever read。

An emotional one-day read。 Childhood best friends to first love and a second chance romance all in this roller coaster of feelings。

Fell in love with Macy and Elliot。 I enjoyed watching their story unfold。 Sometimes books that jump between the past and present can be confusing, but it worked in this story。 I admired Macy’s father。 Being a single parent is hard, and he really did a great job。 Although Macy’s mother died before the story began, she had an impact on Macy after she was gone。

OH MY GOD THIS BOOK!1) Elliot Petropoulos is my new book boyfriend (I even like him more than Edward Cullen) 2)This book is perfectly crafted: the two different time perspectives, the awkwardness of high school romance, the friends to lovers trope, the way it’s written makes you feel like you are Macy living through this hallmark esque romcom moment…it’s too good3)My favourite pages/parts (without spoilers) 22, 81-87, 101, 105, 137(Savage Macy), 146, 196, and then like the entire last half of th OH MY GOD THIS BOOK!1) Elliot Petropoulos is my new book boyfriend (I even like him more than Edward Cullen) 2)This book is perfectly crafted: the two different time perspectives, the awkwardness of high school romance, the friends to lovers trope, the way it’s written makes you feel like you are Macy living through this hallmark esque romcom moment…it’s too good3)My favourite pages/parts (without spoilers) 22, 81-87, 101, 105, 137(Savage Macy), 146, 196, and then like the entire last half of the book 。。。more

i was excited to read this book because it’s so hyped up on TikTok but, to my disappointment, it did not live up to my expectations。 going in, i knew not to expect much because books that trend on #BookTok are almost never well written。 i don’t mean that this book wasn’t well written, it just felt WattPad like。i’m getting pretty convinced that the romance genre just doesn’t really appeal to me, because so far i’ve only read about 3 that i’ve actually liked (The Fault in Our Stars, Looking For Al i was excited to read this book because it’s so hyped up on TikTok but, to my disappointment, it did not live up to my expectations。 going in, i knew not to expect much because books that trend on #BookTok are almost never well written。 i don’t mean that this book wasn’t well written, it just felt WattPad like。i’m getting pretty convinced that the romance genre just doesn’t really appeal to me, because so far i’ve only read about 3 that i’ve actually liked (The Fault in Our Stars, Looking For Alaska, All The Bright Places)。 this book just did not do it for me, it’s literally just any other romance book, nothing special。i liked the idea of the alternating time lines, but after awhile it got pretty repetitive because most of the time it was almost the same kind of flashbacks。 i feel like the book could have been much better without the flashbacks, but that’s just my opinion。also to add on, not that i care about the plot (because this was genuinely been one of THE MOST boring book i’ve ever read) but if you are interested to know, the ending / grand reveal of the story of why they cut contact in the first place, was horrible! no other word to describe it! just horrible! overall, it was just like any other romance book, there was never really a climax to the whole thing (at least for me)。i am pretty annoyed that i went into this expecting to like it so much more than i actually did, but if i hadn’t been expecting anything, it would have been a pleasant surprise。 to each their own。 things about the book i did like:- the characters were all interesting - the last 2 sentences of the whole book really made up for the feeling i had that reading this was a waste of my time- that’s it。very average book, something to read if you’re bored/in between books。 。。。more

I really liked this book it was so cute and i loved the small mystery element that got unpacked slowly between then and now。 I loved the way Lauren wrote the two stories and portrayed the relationship o Elliot and Macy。 Although the end was obvious I still liked the story arc。 It felt short and so much had happened in their stories。 Super cute and easy read, would recommend。

This is a 3。5 out of 5。 It has some really good quotes that I loved。 Also, in some parts, the writing felt like a more romantic Sally Rooney book。 It also gave me November 9 vibes at some point。 I really liked it, totally recommend it! PS。 I NEED MACY’S LIBRARY ASAP!!

Girl, I got your back。 Fuck Elliot for doing what he did after what he told you on the phone。 You did the right thing by ghosting him for 11 years。 You 👏 deserved 👏 better 👏 than 👏 that 👏

Might be my new favourite romance。 This book is so heartbreakingly beautiful and I am in love。 Macy and Elliot’s relationship is everything and I loved reading every detail of it throughout the years。 Their story gives you all the feels and is so well written in a simple yet beautiful way。 Forever will be in love with Elliot。 Everything about this book was perfect!

Bianca

Super cute but definitely didn’t cry! Exactly what I needed, I definitely felt the chemistry between the characters。 The plot wasn’t too eventful, it was quite simple, but still good!
